A Gamble for Personal Development

Towards the eve of November, I made the bold choice of entering into a bet against my friend. The conditions? I was to obtain six visible abdominal packs by spring break. If I lost, $10 would escape from my grasp and land in the greedy hands of my acquaintance. If I won, my friend would have to cough up the same amount.

Admittedly, it was a bit of a risky deal on my part. One could even say that the difficulty of obtaining such physical attributes could be comparable to the uphill battle Sisyphus faced every time he pushed the inevitably falling rock.

Nevertheless, the bet has now spilled into my goals for the New Year. But my motivations have developed beyond simple monetary gain. They’ve developed into goals that involve my health and long-term sustainability. Not only do I wish to look down at my stomach and see an iron core with chiseled, pulsating, and vibrant muscles that would make Chris Bumstead’s stomach shrivel in shame, but I also wish to hit some health/exercise goals as well. For example, I want to max out my testosterone levels, lower my blood sugar levels, bench more, and be able to run more than 6.2 miles. In short, I want to look my best and feel my best.

As I’ve recently begun my journey into adulthood, I find age catching up to me day by day. It’s a bit morbid to think about, but today is the youngest I’ll be for the rest of my life. I will never be this young and healthy ever again. I want to take advantage of this and achieve something now that will be harder or near impossible to do in the future. This isn’t only for financial gain (although it’s motivating); it’s about bettering myself and improving myself each and every day. I want to go into 2025 as a new person, and come out of it looking like one.
